Over 46 000 people involved in illegal mining activities mainly gold, have been arrested since January this year countrywide, as authorities seek to bring sanity in the sector.

Zimbabwe republic police spokesperson assistant commissioner Paul Nyathi said the arrests have been made under an ongoing operation “Operation Chikorokoza Chapera”

Illegal mining activities have contributed to land degradation among other vices, as the miners fail to follow environmental preservation guidelines, leaving open pits and gullies behind.
