Government has underscored a need to establish interventions aimed at improving uptake of HIV testing and subsequent Anti-Retroviral Therapy (ART) by males.
This was said by Ministry of Health and Child Care, National ART coordinator Dr Chiedza Mupanguri during a National Aids Council, NAC media training workshop held in Chinhoyi recently following recent findings that more females are on HIV treatment compared to males.
“Zimbabwe currently has 1.2 million people on art, however many men out there are not forthcoming when it comes to getting tested or taking ARVs. There is need for interventions to ensure men are reached out and get tested," she added.
Global studies show that most HIV positive men who take alcohol tend to default on treatment.
