Government is stepping up efforts to control quelea birds in their roosting areas, to limit further destruction of winter wheat.

In an interview with Star FM News, acting director for migratory pests and bio-security control in the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development Shingirai Nyamutukwa said new measures introduced to control the birds including arial spraying are bearing fruit

Government has since procured equipment and requirements for quelea birds control, including aerial and drone sprays, motorised control measures and established one stop centres where farmers report to get assistance in controlling the birds.
