Government has availed $4,6 billion for the construction of 35 model schools in all the country’s 10 provinces.
Appearing before a Parliamentary portfolio committee on Primary and Secondary education this Thursday, the Ministry's Chief Director for Primary, Secondary and non-formal education, Olicah Kaira, said construction sites have already been identified.
Kaira added that under the programme, 19 primary and 16 secondary schools, will be constructed with eight offering secondary school boarding facilities, while 312 existing ones will be rehabilitated.
Government has set a target of constructing 3 000 new schools by 2025 to decongest learning institutions.
There are approximately 10 000 primary and secondary schools in the country, which are however, failing to cope with the increasing number of learners.
