E-passport processing decentralised.

Government is moving with speed to ensure all provinces can start processing electronic passports within the next 3 months, as it moves to end the burden citizens have been facing to access the critical travel document for many years.

This was said by Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Kazembe Kazembe at the Bulawayo province e-passport processing launch on Wednesday.

This comes as Government has announced that, the Civil Registry Department's passport office in Harare will now open on Saturdays to assist people applying for the newly-introduced e-passport, in response to the high demand for the document.

Meanwhile, Minister Kazembe warned members of the public against criminal elements purporting to be processing the travel document online.

Zimbabwe introduced an e-passport in 2021, positioning itself among other global countries that are now using the digital document.
