The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) says it is mooting the establishment of an Elders’ Panel comprising eminent persons who have served the electoral management body to provide guidance and advice during critical electoral processes.
It is envisaged that the Panel will act as a Charitable Trust which will help in providing institutional memory, dispute resolution and recommend on the international best practices in election management issues as part of an initiative to embrace electoral reforms meant to ensure free and fair polls.
This was said by ZEC Chairperson Justice Priscilla Chigumba in a farewell message to the election management body’s spokesperson, Commissioner Joyce Kazembe whose term of office comes to an end in July, 2022 after over 20 years of service in Zimbabwe and abroad.
ZEC has since appointed Commissioner Jasper Mangwana as spokesperson.
Meanwhile, it is four day's before voting in national assembly and local authority by elections and ZEC says it has accredited over 30 foreign observers for the polls.
The by-elections will be held for 122 local authority wards and 28 national assembly seats.
