Housing Minister says no demolitions to take place

National Housing and Social Amenities Minister Daniel Garwe says there will not be any house demolitions, as Government is committed to seeing people with requisite shelter.

In an interview, Minister Garwe dismissed reports that houses at Arlington Estate phase 2, were set for demolition saying President Emmerson Mnangagwa in 2021 gifted Zimbabweans specifically urbanites with title deeds.

This comes after Harare Metropolitan Province, Secretary for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Tafadzwa Muguti had earlier said developments in the Arlington Estate Phase 2 and Retreat areas, fell in the airport red-zone, and could be demolished.

Mr Muguti however clarified Tuesday night that in its current state, Arlington Estate would not be demolished, but the proposed second phase would not be accepted, as it falls on the red zone of the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport.
