Call for ZUPCO-franchise payment review

Transport operators have implored Government to review payments for transporters operating under the Zimbabwe United Passenger Company (ZUPCO) franchise, saying the move will encourage more players to come on board and help ease transport challenges.

Greater Harare Association of Commuter Omnibus Operators secretary general, Ngoni Katsvairo said talks with Government are ongoing over payment modalities and other conditions.

Government banned private transport operators in March 2020, as part of measures to curb the spread of Covid-19, as well as to restore sanity on the roads, which were characterised by chaos due to unruly kombi crews.

Only those registered under the Zupco banner can operate with kombis charging ZW$80 while buses are pegged at ZW$50 for intra-city traveling.
