War Veterans Investment Corporation in mining claims tussle

By Online Desk |  6 months ago | local

Defence and War Veterans Affairs Permanent Secretary Aaron Nhepera says the War Veterans Investment Corporation (VIC) is embroiled in a tussle for mining claims it was awarded by government as part of assets to empower the former freedom fighters.

Appearing before the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Defence, Home Affairs and Security Services yesterday Nhepera said out of the thirty-six mining claims awarded to the war veterans only eight are viable.

The VIC board was appointed in 2021 with thirty-six mining claims, eight farms and a number of shelf companies.

The board has only been given 9000 US dollars out of the $200 000 dividend declared by Kuvimba mining.

The portfolio committee is tracking the progress made towards the implementation of economic empowerment programmes for veterans of the liberation struggle launched by President Mnangagwa last year.
