Organisers of the annual Zimbabwe Music Awards (ZIMA) are confident that the 2022 edition of the ceremony will go ahead as planned.
Unveiling the next year’s roadmap and partnerships in Harare on Wednesday, ZIMA Corporate Communications Executive Benjamin Nyandoro said the recent announcement by government that licensed bars can now open to fully vaccinated clients, is a positive step towards resuscitating the music sector which was forced to shut down by the Covid-19 pandemic.
“The coincidence of the long awaited announcement on reopening of a key music business enabler – the bars and our timing for unveiling the 2022 edition of the Zimbabwe Music Awards, is not sheer luck. We have secured both the light and the tunnel to the end.
“Eighteen months under lockdown with tight restrictive measures implemented by government to manage the COVID-19 global pandemic, the music keeps playing. The digital cosmos became the primary platform for performance and distribution of music works. Industry players have over the period embraced the ‘new normal’ building smart partnerships between promoters, platform providers, content and sponsorship,” he said.
Nyandoro also said the cement manufacturing company PPC Zimbabwe will return as the anchor sponsor for the awards.
“Let me take this appropriate time to make it official that our ZIMA22 Headline Partner is PPC Zimbabwe. We have cemented this partnership over the years through our convergence on strong commitment and determination in our respective trades and value systems. It is reassuring that corporate giants continue to locate value around recognizing, promoting, celebrating and awarding our musicians, their works and the music support systems.
“We welcome Wezhaz Executive Cars, Barmlo Investments, Kitchen Link and the Bullion Group for coming aboard!”

ZIMA has registered various milestones since its relaunch in 2019 after three years in hiatus.
In 2019 ZIMA, completed building a home for one of Zimbabwe’s celebrated music icon Comrade Chinx in Sentosa, Harare and handed it over to him and his family.
It also added more awards categories to include all of Zimbabwe’s rich music cultural diversity and also introduced retro awards that seek to award the outstanding musicians that stood out before the establishment of ZIMA.
Last year saw the establishment of a ZIMA head office in Harare, and this year commissioned an external adjudication steering committee comprising of 12 qualified persons to oversee and develop the ZIMA Rule Book.
