Government says schools will remain open despite recording positive cases of Covid-19 in some learning institutions, saying confirmed infections do not warrant suspension of lessons as the situation is under control.

Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa said this at a post-cabinet media briefing in Harare today.

Minister Mutsvangwa added that government has instituted the following measures, to curb a further spread of the virus in schools:

*Enhancement of public health and social protocols, including social distancing, hand washing, sanitization and wearing of facemasks

*Enhancement of awareness campaign in schools and surrounding communities

*Vaccination of eligible population in schools and surrounding communities

*Enhancement of surveillance and contact tracing at schools and the surrounding communities

*Increasing on-site Covid-19 testing of all suspected cases, contacts and communities

*Isolation and management of all Covid-19 positive cases

*Quarantining of those exposed

*Restriction of movement into and out of the affected schools until the outbreaks have been controlled.
