Stakeholders in the education sector have raised concern over rampant abuse of drugs and alcohol in learning institutions.

In an interview with Zimpapers Radio News, secretary-generals for the Zimbabwe National Union of School Heads and Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe, Munyaradzi Majoni and Raymond Majongwe, called on authorities to urgently put in place comprehensive measures to deal with the menace.

Meanwhile, the ministry of Primary and Secondary Education says it has since established a department which is currently carrying out outreach programmes countrywide targeting schools reporting such cases.

The development comes at a time more than 200 people involved in dealings of illicit substances have been arrested to date, as authorities move in to curb drug abuse especially among the youths.
