Residents Associations condemn Harare City Council’s abuse of funds
Residents associations have castigated Harare City Council’s management for disbursing hefty allowances for participants at a workshop held in Kadoma recently. Speaking to Star FM News, Harare Residents Trust (HRT) Director Precious Shumba said there is need for council to comply with the Ministry of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing ban on the holding of workshops and seminars outside their jurisdictions to minimise the abuse of funds.
In a statement, combined Harare Residents Association (CHRA) Director Loreen Mupasiri said the council should adopt a culture of cost effectiveness in conducting its business.
The council is said to have held two workshops at Kadoma Ranch Hotel in the past three weeks where each of the attendees pocketed between $5,100 and $25,000 in allowances for the the three days. The money was released at a time when the least-paid council worker is getting a basic monthly salary of $270 a month.
