President launches national covid-19 response plan

President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Monday launched Zimbabwe’s preparedness and response plan for the covid-19 pandemic at the state house.
The president said no country was immune to the disease adding that the government is strengthening surveillance and screening mechanisms to avert the spread of the coronavirus (covid-19).
“So far, seven out of 16 Sadc countries have confirmed cases and government is committed to stopping the spread of covid-19. Our preparedness measures have been scaled up through heightened surveillance systems with special focus on all ports of entry. Screening for all those entering government buildings and infrastructure begins with immediate effect”, said the President.
He said business has declined seriously across the globe and covid-19 has shown to affect everyone including children.
President Mnangagwa called on stakeholders and individuals to all contribute towards the fight against covid-19.
“Every sector and individual must be involved in this national response to covid-19. I urge everyone to practice good personal hygiene.
The launch was attended by vice president Kembo Mohadi, cabinet ministers, diplomats and development partners.
The plan was developed by the Ministry of Health and Child Care with technical support from the World Health Organisation and other partners.
