Covid-19 cases: Over 60 percent are young people
Government says 67 percent of the Covid 19 cases recorded in the country are the youth, adding that it is an indication of a low risk perception among young people who are reluctant to adhere to the health guidelines meant to reduce the spread of the corona virus.
This was said by the Ministry of Health and Child Care’s Health Promotions Officer at Chitungwiza Central Hospital, Ms. Confidence Mutereko, during an interview on Star FM recently.
“Currently 67 percent of our cases are people aged between 20 – 40 years and among them 25 percent are ages between 21 – 30 and 32 percent are ages between 31-40 years.
“We also notice that there is a high number of men affected by the corona virus (65.15%) than women (44.85%)”, said Ms Mutereko.
As of yesterday (Wednesday, the country had 8 055 confirmed cases, including 7 640 recoveries and 231 deaths.
Health experts say risk perception by communities is critical in the fight against Covid 19.
