City Council nurses cite incapacitation
Some Harare City Council nurses have stopped reporting for duty citing incapacitation. In a letter addressed to the City’s Human Capital Director, the move follows the failure by the Council Management to address the nurses grievances which include demands that their salaries from January 2019 be paid at the prevailing interbank rate. In an interview with Star FM News, Harare City Health Services Director Dr Prosper Chonzi said they are engaging the nurses to go back to work while a long term solution is being worked on.
Meanwhile, the government has engaged local authorities to provide services to patients who were stranded following the unavailability of doctors at Public Health Institutions. The current move by council nurses might worsen the situation as the impasse between doctors and government is still ongoing.
