The Zimbabwe Republic Police has embarked on a countrywide operation meant to enforce statutory instrument 122a of 2017, exchange control amendment regulations, which criminalises the illegal trading in foreign currency.
In a statement, police Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said statistics gathered from provinces on Monday indicate that six accused persons were arrested for illegal dealing in foreign currency while seven others were arrested for blocking pavements in central business districts.
Assistant Commissioner Nyathi said from 18 October, a total of 107 arrests have been made for illegal dealing in foreign currency and 58 for blocking pavements countrywide.
He said police are warning members of the public to desist from illegally dealing in foreign currency as the long arm of the law will catch up with them, adding that the operation is ongoing until sanity returns in all cities and towns.
