A South African business  man Mr Sean Lee Evans says Zimbabwe is lagging  behind in terms of digital transformation and there is need for the country to embrace new technological  innovations.

Mr Lee Evans made the comments at a Data Centre Conference Expo held in Victoria Falls recently.

Mr Sean Lee Evans said Zimbabwe has a role to play with the rest of the continent  in terms of digital transformation.

He added that companies and enterprises in Zimbabwe need to adopt a new  mindset if digitalisation and digital transformation that the country needs to be competitive in the  world of business are to  succeed.

Bindura University of Science Education Information Communication Technology   director  Mr Mark Makombe said a knowledge based economy depends on information and technology that is centralised.

Mr Makombe said the country cannot have a knowledge based economy if the information is scattered everywhere.

Mr Makombe  said currently there is duplication of infrastructure across all government departments but with the introduction of data centers in the country  there will be a reduction in the requirements for ICT equipment.

South  Africa  Master Power Technologies sales and marketing manager  Mr Rory Reid said Zimbabwe is in a good position to grow and develop  since the demand for education , health, knowledge,  cell phone  utilisation and the demand for data  centres are growing thereby creating opportunities for Zimbabwe to grow in terms  of digitalisation and digital transformation.

Key countries around Africa are driving towards digital transformation and companies are becoming more digital platforms for customers to elaborate more on brands.

According to  the African Digitalisation Maturity Report, South Africa's diverse economy and high quality mobile broadband infrastructure have made the country  the continental leader  in the digitalisation  of key sectors of its economy followed by Kenya , Nigeria and Ethiopia.
