Zimbabwe commemorates International Day of Universal Access to Information

On Friday Zimbabwe commemorated International Day of Universal Access to Information, amid calls for the media to play an active role in disseminating information in languages that are understood by communities.
Speaking at belated commemorations in Chitungwiza on Friday, Deputy Minister of Information Communication Technology and Courier Services, Cde Jerifan Muswere said information should be available to all in order to achieve the sustainable development goals.
Speaking at the same occasion, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) regional advisor for communication and information, Mr Hezekiel Dlamini said information should be easily accessible to empower communities.

The International Day of Universal Access to Information is commemorated on the 28th of September annually.  
This year's commemorations were held under the theme "Strengthening knowledge societies through access to information in zimbabwe".
