The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) says its target of registering seven million two hundred thousand people for next year’s harmonised elections might be missed due to several reasons that include of bad terrain and poor communication network in some areas and adverse weather conditions. Speaking at a media conference in the capital  on Thursday,  ZEC Acting Chairperson Mr Emmanuel Magade however said the current number of registered voters, which stands at over four million two hundred thousand, Wednesday is commendable considering that turn out has not been as much in the past years.

Meanwhile ZEC has requested an additional $7.9 million from government to extend the biometric voter registration blitz, whose fourth and final phase is ending next week Tuesday. This was revealed by the Acting Chairperson Mr Magade and also said all political parties have requested for the extension of the registration period.
