Andre Gomes: Everton midfielder to make full recovery
Everton midfielder Andre Gomes is “expected to make a full recovery” after a successful surgery to repair a fracture dislocation to his right ankle, his club has confirmed.
The 26-year-old Portugal international suffered the injury during Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Tottenham. A club statement said the surgery on Monday “went extremely well”. Gomes will recover in hospital before starting his rehabilitation under the guidance of Everton’s medical staff.
Everton’s statement added: “On behalf of Andre, the club would like to thank all Everton supporters and members of the wider football family for the overwhelming messages of support we have received since yesterday’s match.”
Gomes sustained the injury after landing off balance at speed following a tackle from Spurs forward Son Heung-min . Everton players are praying for Andre Gomes after that serious injury with one of the players revealing that the star was crying, shouting and screaming after his sickening ankle break. The man who tackled him, Tottenham will appeal Son Heung-min’s red card for the tackle that led to Andre Gomes’ horrendous ankle injury on Sunday and also offer the ‘devastated’ South Korean psychological counselling. Son was shown a red card for the initial challenge on Gomes.
